Perspectives
British perspective The British parliament, where in it appears that we have been tried and condemned. They consider there selves as suffering the stroke ministerial, I hope they will sustain the blow with a becoming fortitude “Said Samuel Adams,” and the cursed design of intimidating and subduing the Spirits of all America, will, by the joint efforts of all, be frustrated. this letter is by Samuel Adams to, James Warren. Colonist perspective The quartering Act and the Massachusetts Government Act of the intolerable acts gave the Governor of Massachusetts control of the colony. Following the Boston Massacre General Thomas Gage had said that “America is a mere bully’s” from one end to the other. The appointment of General Thomas Gage made it clear to Bostonian's that the crown intended to impose martial law, in which a military Government suspends civil war. |
Why The Intolerable Acts Are
Important The Intolerable Acts passed in 1774 to punish the Colonists for the Boston Tea Party. There were three major acts involved that angered the Colonists. The first was the Boston port Bill and it closed the Boston Harbor until the people of Boston payed for the tea that they through in the harbor. It went into effect on June 1st,1774. The Administrations of Justice Act became effective May 20th it did not allow British soldiers to be tried in the colonies for any crimes they might commit. This meant the soldiers could do anything they wanted since they would probably not be punished for their crimes. The Intolerable acts are one of the causes of the Revolutionary War. The Colonists and the British both had different views. The British thought that it would help their economy. The Colonists thought that the British were unfairly taxing them. So the Colonists went to war with Britain and eventually earned freedom. There were 10 smaller acts and 5 major acts. The major acts were the Boston Port act, the Massachusetts Government act, the Administering of justice act, the Quartering act, and the Quebec act. The other acts were the Navigation act, the Molasses act, the Sugar act, the Stamp act, the Declaration act the Townshend acts, and the Tea act. |
